Investigators will examine if “rotting wood” caused the sign, that caused the death of Jacob Marx, to fall on him as he passed the William Hill betting Shop in CamdenTown on Monday. Witnesses had described the sign as “loose” and “bowed” and fell without warning after winds and rain swept through London that day. Despite the fact that William Hill was granted permission to install a new sign in 2006, it remains firmly the responsibility of managers to ensure that the signage was maintained safely. Under cheap property owners insurance policies, there is a duty of care to ensure that the premises is regularly checked for safety. Any notification received by the councils building control team will be acted upon immediately. Whilst investigations continue, all parties and agencies including William Hill, the Police, the Health and Safety Executive the coroners services and insurance legal advisors will work together to ascertain the cause of this terrible tragedy along with any negligence attached. All cheap shop insurance policy holders should ensure that all signs, fixtures and fittings are kept in a safe condition and should refer to their insurance broker if they have any queries as they will work with customers and insurers alike to maintain and improve all risk management requirements or recommendations to avoid or at least keep to a minimum eventualities that can potentially be avoided.
