The insurance broking giant Aon has signed a lucrative 8 year deal with Manchester United for reportedly between £120 and £180 million to rename the clubs training centre to the Aon Training Complex. This will include sponsoring their training kit and they will become the first-ever partner of the club’s training facility at Carrington. MUFC players and coaching staff will also wear Aon branded training kits at all competitive domestic fixtures and friendlies, as well as during training sessions.
Aon has only one more season to run on its £80m four-year deal to sponsor Manchester United’s well known playing kit. Chevrolet which has upped the ante in a £53m per-year deal moving forward
Both Manchester United and Aon have reportedly refused to disclose the full cost of this latest deal, but the Daily Telegraph assessed the total figure would reach £180m, whereas the BBC has reported the figure as £120m, hence the disparity. Nevertheless, a huge amount and a huge commitment.
On announcing the partnership, , Richard Arnold, Manchester United commercial director said: “I am delighted that this cements our relationship with Aon for a further eight years.
“They are a great partner and I am very excited about the possibilities for sustainable advantage this provides the club as we build our global presence” he said.
Aon’s global chief marketing and communications officer Phil Clement,, added: “This announcement is the next step in the evolution of our partnership with Manchester United. Together, Aon and Manchester United have been working on two critical issues for a growing global business – managing risk and highly performing teams and the first phase of our relationship brought Aon an explosion in brand awareness.”
He also added: “This phase of our partnership is a more holistic approach where we can use our expertise and create a global dialogue and knowledge share around the fields of talent, healthcare, risk, retirement, and data and analytics to help deliver great performance and great results.”
Aon and Chevrolet will both be hoping that United’s success and dominance continue way past the 2013 season as they look to have the Premiership sewn up. The international broker tends to focus on global risks and leaves national brokers to offer cheap property insurance or cheap public liability polices.
